Sonia Worsley and Sharon Patrick competed in the Qld X-Triathlon Champs based in the spectacular Sunshine Coast Hinterland, on the banks of Ewen Maddock Dam.  The rainforest trails and fern filled bushland of Beerwah State Forest was the perfect setting for the TreX season finale. This race was the final qualification round for the 2016 ITU World Championships to be held on home soil in the Snowy Mountains in November, 2016. Well done Sonia and Sharon, hope you made the team!

All the best to those competing at this event. It will once again be held just a few hours south of Sydney in the beach side town of Callala Beach, on pristine Jervis Bay, New South Wales.

The XTERRA Asia-Pacific Championship – Distance: 1.5K ocean swim, 30K mountain bike and 10K trail run.

For some years we have ridden into civic on Anzac Day. I propose we keep this tradition going. This will be a genuine group ride where nobody will be left behind, as the ride is strictly social. As people like me will be going to the dawn service, I propose we meet at 0930 at the Tuggeranong Skate Park and ride to an appropriate cafe in Civic, possibly Dobbinsons. The return journey is normally self organised depending on what people want to do. See you all next Monday. Rod Harrod’s Facebook post in our Vikings closed group page.

MegaSwim time! 30 April–1 May 2016

A message from Acton Building “It would be wonderful for Vikings to be a part of the swim again. I know it’s a big commitment but your ongoing support is always appreciated”.

It’s MegaSwim time again to raise money for the MS research and support. Vikings triathlon has had a long involvement with the Canberra MegaSwim through Acton Building, which enters a team each year.
Acton Building is seeking Vikings Triathlon members for this year’s MegaSwim on 30 April–1 May 2016 at the AIS pool. The MegaSwim goes for 24 hours and each team needs to have a swimmer in the pool for this whole time.

Acton Building is looking for another 12 swimmers at this stage. Here is the link to join: http://www.msmegaswim.org.au/index.cfm?fuseaction=register.start&eventID=506&teamID=5103. It costs $45 (you can also do some fundraising if you want). Once you join, Acton Building will be in touch about when and how long you can swim (usually organised in 30 minute slots between 12 pm Saturday and 12 pm Sunday).

Hope to see you.

Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Run Series

The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team is delighted to announce the Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Run Series. With some of the best trails of any city anywhere, we felt it was time to dedicate a Winter series to one of our greatest joys – running in the bush around Canberra.

Race 1: 29 May “Cotter Canter” 5km & 10km
Race 2: 26 June “Tuggeranong Trot” 8km & 20km
Race 3: 17 July “Gungahlin Gallop” 10km & 30km

The Series will explore trails on the fringe of Canberra – west, south and north. With shorter and longer distance options at each event, and distances increasing with each race, the Series is the perfect introduction to Trail Running and ideal preparation for the Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Ultra in September.

Motivational quote No 15

For those who don’t have any races or events planned…WHY NOT! A way to keep good training habits and not loose too much fitness is to set some goals over the autumn and winter. There is still a lot of training happening and remember to invite others to join you on Facebook. Training with someone makes training fun.  Have a great week. See you for the ANZAC day ride.
