Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Run Series – Race 2: 26 June

The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team is delighted to announce the Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Run Series. With some of the best trails of any city anywhere, we felt it was time to dedicate a Winter series to one of our greatest joys – running in the bush around Canberra.

Race 2: 26 June “Tuggeranong Trot” 8km & 20km
Race 3: 17 July “Gungahlin Gallop” 10km & 30km

The Series will explore trails on the fringe of Canberra – west, south and north. With shorter and longer distance options at each event, and distances increasing with each race, the Series is the perfect introduction to Trail Running and ideal preparation for the Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Ultra in September.

Parkrun News – By Scott Marshall

Results for parkrunday 18 June – Tuggeranong parkrun had its smallest attendance in 3 years due to the threatening weather and the launch of the Burley Griffin parkrun. 3 Vikings took advantage of the low numbers to record solid finishing places.

Leading up to the inaugural Burley Griffin parkrun it appeared there could have been in excess of 600 parkrunners. The forecast rain may have helped keep numbers down a bit, although it was still a record attendance for all Canberra parkruns with 435 enjoying the morning. 6 Vikings headed over to Weston Park to experience the new course and in doing so witnessed a former Olympian set a very handy course record of 15:25 – that may take a while to better.

And a big thank you goes to the Vikings that volunteered at Burley Griffin: Darron COYLE, Gavin MCINTYRE, Lillian MCINTYRE, Luke LOWES, Rebecca CODY.

All this week’s Tuggeranong results are on the parkrun website.

Tuggeranong parkrun event #173, 86 runners
6 Wayne CORLIS, 20 Tony MCCORMACK, 52 Geoff WILLIAMS

Burley Griffin parkrun event #1, 435 parkrunners
47 Geoff HAWKE, 111 Humphrey JAMES, 268 Nicole BRUCE, 293 Scott MARSHALL, 428 Alison HALE, 431 Megan MCINTYRE

This week’s parkrun fun facts:

The Vikings Triathlon Club recently clocked up more 2,000 runs at Tuggeranong parkrun spread between 134 Viking parkrunners.

As of this weekend there are now two parkrunners that have completed at least 500 individual parkruns worldwide. Darren Wood had been the sole member of this illustrious club for well over a year with 564 parkruns. This weekend Richard Fletcher joined him. In the coming weeks there will be a mini procession of parkrunners passing this mark with two more in the 490’s and two more in the 480’s

Don’t forget your barcode #dfyb. And remember to hand back your finish token too!

Volunteers are important for the parkrun to go smoothly. If you are having a rest day or have time please consider volunteering.

Vikings Triathlon Club is the largest club on the Tuggeranong parkrun list with 134 parkrunners! Club list. You can view all our members who have completed a parkrun on their website. Vikings Club history. To have your name added to our list above, go to the details page on the parkrun and add your club.

OUR GREATEST WEAKNESS LIES IN GIVING UP. THE MOST CERTAIN WAY TO SUCCEED IS ALWAYS TO TRY JUST ONE MORE TIME.

A great night at our annual presentation night. So many villians and heroes…and many fitted into their dress up character so well!  Have a great week everyone.

Cheers
