Congratulations to the Viking athletes who have been selected to represent Australia at the 2016 ITU World Age Group Championship events.
Maggie Welfare, Graeme Smyth, Narelle Desmet and Lauren Elliott will compete in Cozumel, Mexico in September at the 2016 ITU Age Group World Triathlon Championships.
Sonia Worsley, Sharon Patrick, Beth Bowen and Kerrie Muir will compete in Lake Crackenback, New South Wales at the 2016 ITU Age Group World Cross Triathlon Championships on 18-21 Nov.
Brian Weiss will be competing on the 5th June 2016 in the Australian Age Group Duathlon team in Spain.
TACT AWARDS NIGHT – Friday 17 June 2016
Vikings have eight finalists who have been nominated in the major TACT awards as well as a number of Vikings receiving point score awards. It would be great to see lots of Vikings attending on the night to cheer on our finalists and winners.

Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Run Series
The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team is delighted to announce the Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Run Series. With some of the best trails of any city anywhere, we felt it was time to dedicate a Winter series to one of our greatest joys – running in the bush around Canberra.
The Series will explore trails on the fringe of Canberra – west, south and north. With shorter and longer distance options at each event, and distances increasing with each race, the Series is the perfect introduction to Trail Running and ideal preparation for the Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Ultra in September.
RESOLUTION RUN SERIES – 24 July
Our Major Sponsor, The Vikings Group is involved in the Resolution Run Series event and as we are an affiliation with the Club it would great if we could show the rest of the affiliated clubs how we do it best and support this event by entering. Plus it is for Men’s Health.
The Vikings Group are again proud to be involved with the Resolution Run Series Events in Tuggeranong. The third instalment of the Resolution Run Series will be held on Sunday, 24 July 2016 and will be taking place around Lake Tuggeranong to raise funds and awareness for men’s health.
There is an event to suit everyone, ranging from a 700m kids dash, 7km walk, 3km run, 7km run, 14km run and for the first time, a half-marathon (21km) has been introduced to the suite of events. What better opportunity to get moving and to support men’s health.

SUNDAY RUN – 8am
This Sunday being the 5 June is the 1st Sunday of the month the run is at Mt Ainslie – meet in the car park at the back of the War Memorial Treloar Crescent, Campbell. It’s a good idea to check on Facebook if you intend going and make sure other people are going.
DEVELOPMENT COACH COURSE – 6–7th August
The next course will be a Development Coach Course which will be held on the weekend of the 6th and 7th August 2016. If you are interested, please contact Craig Johns at email@example.com. Tuggeranong parkrun – by Scott Marshall
Results for parkrunday 28 May – With so many events over the weekend there was only a small number of Vikings out parkrunning last weekend. Five Vikings were at Tuggeranong parkrun for a cool start to the weekend, and Sue was at Traralgon parkrun. Maggie’s persistent training for Mexico later this year earned her a two minute PB, this was her 4th PB in a row, although Maggie’s last parkrun was just under twelve months ago. Being Sue’s last run at Traralgon before heading back west must have given her a boost with a 19 second PB.
Bec Cody and Luke Lowes picked a good day to volunteer with the temperature sitting at a balmy 2.5 degrees at 8am.
With the start of any new parkruns there is a lot of behind the scenes work, one of the fun tasks is a trial run. On Sunday Scott Nielsen, Humphrey James, Gavin McIntrye and me attended the Burley Griffin parkrun trial. Despite the temperature sitting around a chilly -2 three of us managed top 10 placing’s, Gavin was pushing a pram and finished in 12th. Being at Weston Park the course is very scenic, but is also a little bumpy and has lots of twists and turns. THE STRONGER YOU ARE, THE BETTER YOU FEEL.
I know cold weather and lack of motivation can keep you from working out. It is also a lot harder to stay motivated and workout consistently during the winter months. We all get stuck sometimes whether it’s from a fitness rut or just feeling unmotivated. While it is not always easy to get out there, it’s always worth it. Just remember a one hour workout is 4% of your day so no excuses.
