Weekly newsletter – 4 April 2016

Not much happening in the way of triathlons last week, but training is still full swing for our Vikings getting ready for Batemans Bay, XTERRA championships,  Ironman Australia Port Macquarie, Ironman Cairns and Challenge Roth, Germany.

All the best to Vikings competing at the Batemans Bay Triathlon Festival this weekend. A message from Elite Energy – NOTICE: The proposed Beat the Bridge fun run events and Ocean Swim will no longer take place. All competitors have been notified via email. We apologise for any inconvenience.

During the week I received an email from the Sri Chinmoy people, Jackie Yow you should check it out!

The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team is delighted to announce the Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Run Series. With some of the best trails of any city anywhere, we felt it was time to dedicate a Winter series to one of our greatest joys – running in the bush around Canberra.

Race 1: 29 May “Cotter Canter” 5km & 10km
Race 2: 26 June “Tuggeranong Trot” 8km & 20km
Race 3: 17 July “Gungahlin Gallop” 10km & 30km

The Series will explore trails on the fringe of Canberra – west, south and north. With shorter and longer distance options at each event, and distances increasing with each race, the Series is the perfect introduction to Trail Running and ideal preparation for the Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail Ultra in September.

Are you pictured on the event homepage?

From the swim leg at Corrigan’s Beach that overlooks the Tollgate Islands, the Giant bike leg that takes you all the way to the Moruya River, running the boardwalk along the river passing spectators in the vibrant waterfront cafes – you will be inspired at every point.

Tuggeranong parkrun – by Scott Marshall

Results for parkrunday 2 April – 12 Vikings enjoyed a glorious autumn morning to start their weekend off!

Ali was at Balyang Sanctuary (in Geelong, I had to look it up!), Breanna had another parkrun at Gungahlin, the remaining ten Vikings parkran at Tuggeranong.

Although there were no PB’s this weekend, a few Vikings ran well and were within a minute of their previous best.

As mentioned last week Gavin McIntyre joined the 100 club, becoming the third Viking to achieve this feat. Gavin and his family certainly classify as parkrun tragics, possibly parkrun nuts! Between Gavin (100), Phillipa (104) and Lilly (42) they have amassed a wonderful 246 parkruns at nine different locations. Even more awe inspiring is collectively they have volunteered 32 times!

And hot off the press, over the weekend the UK processed their 10 millionth parkrun result. It’s not clear who the parkrunner was, but the good news is that they get free entry next week at any parkrun in the world!

Don’t forget your barcode #dfyb.

All this week’s Tuggeranong results are on the parkrun website.

Balyang Sanctuary parkrun event #193, 185 parkrunners.
123 Alison HALE

Gungahlin parkrun event #129, 194 parkrunners.
62 Breanna GASSON

Tuggeranong parkrun event #162, 287 parkrunners

10 Geoff HAWKE, 28 Humphrey JAMES, 30 Gavin MCINTYRE, 55 Tony MCCORMACK, 73 Karen DANIELS, 120 Rebecca DOYLE, 133 Rebecca CODY, 160 Dean JAMES, 181 Elouise O’TOOLE, 228 Zoe ROBERTS.

Volunteers are important for the parkrun to go smoothly. If you are having a rest day or have time please consider volunteering.

Vikings Triathlon Club is the largest club on the Tuggeranong parkrun list with 132 parkrunners! Club list. You can view all our members who have done the parkrun on their website. Vikings Club history. To have your name added to our list above, go to the details page on the parkrun and add your club.

The parkrun is free – yep, it costs nothing! It is aimed at all types of runners and walkers, from juniors and first timers to Olympians and nonagenarians. Whilst I won’t be running, for those who missed me last week, I’ll be parkwalking this week! Please register before your first run, and you only ever register with parkrun once. Then remember to take a printed copy of your barcode to any of the more than 150 Australian, or around 800 parkruns worldwide.

Motivational quote No 13

With the triathlon season winding down for some, plan some winter events and goals, all for getting ready for the next season. There is lots to do and Canberra autumn days are the best days to be out!
