Vikings Junior Program.
Age group 7-13 years of age
NB: The junior program will not run in 2018 due to limited coach availability for this season – we certainly plan to add it to the 2019 schedule commencing in January.
Targeted towards developing mateship and social skills, water confidence, basic bike and transition skills. Most of all, we aim to make it fun for the kids to participate.
The program will follow the pattern of run, bike and transition practice on Friday evenings at the Mt Stromlo Forest Park starting at 6 PM and swimming practice at 3 PM on Sunday afternoons at the Lakeside Leisure Centre in Tuggeranong (YMCA). It is likely that we also hold a few sessions at locations around Lake Burley Griffin (usually Black Mountain Peninsular) to practice race day conditions.
Development coaches run this program with the assistance of a range of qualified club coaches and volunteers. We are always looking for helpers and anyone interested in undertaking the coaching qualification program. Age 14-16 may be suitable for our junior program or novice program depending on fitness level or physical size. Please speak to our coaching coordinator for guidance on suitability for the different programs.
Special needs individuals: We are a diverse club and encourage all kids to participate including those with special needs. Please contact the coaching coordinator if your child would like to join us.
